I selected this organization because of its strong focus on quality improvement, patient safety, and integrated care, which are essential in gerontological nursing practice. Older adults frequently experience complex health conditions that require coordinated, team-based care. Also, HEC supports healthcare organizations in implementing improvement initiatives that enhance care delivery systems and reduce pressure on hospitals by strengthening primary and community care (Healthcare Excellence Canada [HEC], 2026).
In addition, HEC emphasize collaboration and knowledge sharing across disciplines and care settings (HEC,2026). This aligns with my professional goal of practicing in a manner that supports interprofessional teamwork and evidence-based care.
Another important reason I selected HEC is that access to the organization’s resources and updates does not require a paid membership or subscription fee. The ability to register and participate at no cost removes financial barriers and promotes equitable access to professional learning opportunities. As a practical nursing student, this allows me to engage in ongoing professional development and stay informed about national quality initiatives without additional financial burden. This accessibility supports lifelong learning and professional growth early in my nursing career.
As I subscribed to HEC, I am remaining informed about national initiatives that aim to improve healthcare quality and safety for seniors across Canada.
